If you are somewhat knowledgeable of classic rock or a "Parrothead", you easily recognized that the title of my blog is the name of Jimmy Buffet's 1977 album. This album had the big hit, "Margaritaville". Little did the public know at the time, this breakthrough song and album would become part of our cultural psyche. Jimmy took "Margaritaville" as well as another popular song, "Cheeseburger in Paradise" and branded it to: a casino, record label, restaurants, resorts, retirement villages, and hotels. Besides this, Buffet has been a writer of books, screen plays and plays; owner of sport teams, a brewing label called Land Shark Lager, Coral Reefer cannabis products; an actor, and has contributed to charity work. To boot, Jimmy and the Coral Reefer Band are out on tour this year. Still going strong at age 72.
WHOA.....don't think he spent much time looking for his lost shaker of salt that's for sure.
Though I am not a fan, I have to admit, I truly admire those who follow their dream. The creators, the dreamers, the doers. If you research Buffet and his brand, he helped made "It's 5 o clock somewhere" a mindset.
Hopefully in your life, you have met someone who creates, who pursues their passion to the fullest. I know someone who fits that description 1000%. His name is Richard Bryce.
I met Richard about 20 years ago through friends. He came with us to tricky trays and was part of our gang for quite a while. He was one of our children's librarians in town. Richard was always patient, kind, warm and friendly. Helpful and compassionate as well. And always family oriented. His nieces and nephews were always on his mind and totally spoiled by him.
Over the years, Richard moved on...to Denville Public Library and then his big move to Florida. During that time, I learned of his interest in photography. One thing led to another and his world exploded with travel and opportunities to work on his craft; which led to over 40 awards and a successful photography business. In addition, he is involved in philanthropy. Folks from all over the world have noticed and bought his work....which is when Margaritaville met Richard Bryce.
A few weeks ago, Richard posted on Facebook about one of his beautiful photos being purchased and displayed at the brand new Margaritaville Resort Orlando, shown above. An art consulting firm found his picture of a parrot and decided that this would be perfect at the resort. (I don't know about you, but I always wanted to know where the artwork came from and how it was done.)
I noticed similarities between the two men. They started small, worked hard to perfect their craft, created something that wasn't there before and brought beauty and fun to the masses. Something we REALLY need more of today.
If you want to check out more of Richard's work, check out Richard Bryce Photography on Facebook, as well as his website, www.richardbrycephotography.com.
Richard...again congratulations! I am so happy for you!
